Use This Method To Grab Your Audience’s Attention On Social Media

For Music Artists & Content Creators that use sound and voice in their content

Do you primarily use music or sound in the content you post to social media?

These statistics may shock you.

85% of Facebook and Instagram users are using the apps with NO SOUND ON!

As in silent!

I am one of those users.

Why are so many consuming tons of video on these platforms with sound off?

Many people are scrolling at work. Some are at home around family or out in public without headphones. There are those that are hearing impaired. And then there are others, like me, who are sensitive to sound in some form or another and the unpredictability of sounds coming from the screen is not something I like to deal with. That coupled with that fact that there is sound, period, just isn’t for me. As a matter of fact I’ve been trying to decide which of these earplugs to get for every day and concerts: Eargasm, Loop or Hearprotek (these are affiliate links. I may earn a small commission for items purchased). If you have any experience with these, let me know. I would love the input.

But there is a solution and method to break through to your audience and it’s very easy to do.

How to Get Your Audience to Listen to Your Video When They’re On Silent?

The answer is simple. Grab their attention!

Use attention grabbing text but not just any text. There are two types of text that you need to use in order to grab your audience’s attention. One type of text is subtitles and closed captioning.

37% of people say they’ll turn the sound on because the subtitles make the video more interesting

Veed.io

Even more mind blowing are these statistics about social media users and sound according to Veed.io:

  • 80% of consumers are more likely to watch a full video if It has subtitles
  • 83% of people watch video with the sound off on any device
  • 92% of people watch with the sound off on mobile devices

But the biggest secret to getting people to stop and listen to your video?…

“STATIC CAPTIONS”!

Instagram covers and thumbnails are the least thought about features when it comes to Reel making and they’re often neglected altogether. But these images that live on your grid, can have the biggest impact on your viewership. Keeping a caption on your video allows someone scrolling with sound off to know what your video is about and, if they relate to the caption or find it interesting, they will stop and listen. One music artist that does this feature very well is the alt rapper FR33SOL (Instagram @fr33sol).

As you can see from the above image, it is clear what the message each Reel is trying to convey. With a static title, no matter which point in the video ends up in front of your viewers’ eyes, your message stays right in view. Another added benefit, anyone visiting your profile later on can also resonate with your message or be intrigued by it and tap on it, causing another view of your video and a potential new fan or opportunity.

Although you can’t redo your videos to add subtitles after the fact, you CAN CHANGE YOUR COVER after it’s uploaded. Here’s a video I made that explains how (along with some other cool features you may not know about).

How to add subtitles or text to your videos?

How to add a caption to your video in the Instagram app

To find Captions, upload a video. This works with video in Stories and Reels. Tap the Sticker icon.

Tap “Captions” and the caption will be automatically added. Clicking the text allows you to edit any text that is misspelled or missing.

Capcut

The video editing software and app, owned by the parent company of TikTok, burst on the scene in April 2020 and has had a chokehold on content creators and marketers since. In addition to the slew of elements, fonts, filters, effects and animations to choose from at the free level, is the ability to add text and subtitles to your videos that you can upload anywhere. Once a video is uploaded, Go to “Text” > “Auto Captions” and tab the “Create” button in the “Create captions” panel. Type or paste your desired subtitles in the edit box under the “Captions” tab. After captions are generated, use the text editing features to customize the font to match your brand style or make them more interesting.
